Epic Event, Rad Trophies, to Benefit a Great Cause.
The guys at Deckstool decided to do something a little different this year when it came time for their annual donation to SkateFest / Sk8 for a Cause in Fairfax, VA. Rather than give products to be raffled as they have the previous years, they decided the design and build custom recycled skateboard trophies for the event.
“It ended up being alot of work in a short time, but our goal was to help get more people excited about this event.” says Jason Podlaski of Deckstool, “More people attending and participating ultimately means more money raised for Sk8 for a Cause, and that’s what really matters.”
The trophy design is almost completely made from repurposed broken skateboards. The top half is a 3-D version of the SkateFest logo precision cut by Deckstool craftsman from skateboard fragments. Each logo features unique board graphic design and colors. The base is a laminated block of solid seven ply maple strips, sanded and lacquered to a buttery smooth finish. The logo element is attached to the base using steel rods of varying height for first, second and third place. Trophies were made for every event and age division. Forty-one trophies were awarded in all. Each trophy is a unique, rad piece of skate art intended to commemorate each skaters’ victory forever.
SkateFest / Sk8 for a Cause is an epic event full of skateboarding, free gear and a ton of the most legendary prizes to ever hit the DC Metro area. The weekend celebrates Go Skateboarding Day with family friendly activities for all ages: music, games, food, giveaways, skateboard vendor tents, the Sk8 For A Cause, Skate Competition all to benefit Children’s National Medical Center. www.skatefestfairfax.com
